The FA have released a statement on Manchester City, following the Premier League’s confirmation of numerous guilty verdicts relating to breaches of the competition’s financial rules.

The Premier League confirmed earlier this week that an independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of all the charges related to serious breaches of the competition’s financial rules over a nine-season period, as well as the majority of charges relating to their failure to cooperate.
City still intend to appeal the verdict, with Friday, October 2nd the deadline to exercise their right to appeal. But with the current guilty verdict, the independent commission are set to issue sanctions in a further hearing.
In light of those developments, the FA have released a statement on their official website.

“The Independent Commission’s decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game,” the FA wrote. “We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate.
“As proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing, we do not intend to comment further at this stage. We will, however, continue to monitor developments closely.”

If City’s appeal fails and the guilty verdicts are confirmed, the FA will presumably have to determine whether to take action against the club themselves.
The association may also consider stripping City of some of their trophies, most notably the four FA Cups won by the club since 2009. City have also won four FA Community Shields over the same time period.
For the time being, the FA are evidently keeping their options open while they wait for the situation to be fully resolved.
